Staying in Telluride
The Town of Telluride is a walking community that has a bus route and a gondola that connects it to Mountain Village. Accommodations in the Town of Telluride and in the Mountain Village are within walking distance of all meetings. Please be aware that some hotels and condos charge for parking. Once you arrive, a car is unnecessary.
Telluride Science offers discounted rates on hotel rooms and condos in both Mountain Village and the Town of Telluride. Also, Telluride Science is exempt from lodging taxes and is able to pass on the 12.65% savings to participating scientists.
NOTE: All lodging providers have a cancellation policy. Please be sure to note your lodging provider’s policy before booking your reservation. There are no refunds for lodging changes and cancellations made after the cited cancellation periods. Telluride Science cannot provide discounted rates over some high-volume date ranges such as the Bluegrass Festival and the 4th of July holiday.
Shared Lodging Options
The most affordable way to stay in Telluride is to share lodging. The easiest way to do this is to find people who you want to stay with ahead of time. Discuss with them the type of accommodations that best fits the group’s needs. Then, please designate a head roommate. That individual will be responsible for registering first and selecting the condo. All sub-roommates will then select that participant as their head roommate. Coordinating arrival and departure dates is imperative. Once the head roommate registers and makes a lodging choice, other roommates need to be informed and must register within two weeks.
IF YOU DO NOT KNOW ANYONE TO ROOM WITH, you can also select the Roommate Connection during registration and we can try to find a roommate for you who is staying for the exact same period of time.

Reserving Lodging
Our registration system allows you to select lodging when you register for your workshop. By booking with us, you will get discounted rates and will not be subject to Telluride’s 12.65% sales tax and often-levied resort fees of an additional 6-8%. We offer a wide array of lodging options at suitable for varied needs, tastes, and budgets. There are a lot of variables in price, so it is best to acquaint yourself with the lodging options and then check the specific prices within the registration system.
When you select your “first choice,” the system automatically sends a notification to the lodging provider requesting a reservation. When the lodging provider indicates, “Lodging confirmed,” you have a reservation, even though your credit card has not yet been charged. Your card will be charged according to your preference selected during the registration process.
Lodging is very competitive. Telluride Science encourages participants to register early to secure affordable and desirable lodging. Participants who register and book lodging through Telluride Science prior to the Early Bird deadline will receive a $100 Lodging Discount. The TS Lodging Discount is intended to encourage early reservations that will allow our participants to secure lower-priced lodging.
Cancellation Policy
Full refunds for lodging costs are available if you notify us prior to the cancelation date specified by your lodging provider. We cannot guarantee any refunds after the cancellation date. A $25 Cancellation Fee will apply to registrations prior to lodging payment collection. A $100 Cancellation Fee is required if cancellation occurs after lodging payment collection. This is necessary to help cover related credit card fees incurred by Telluride Science.
Hotel & Condo Options

Mountainside Inn: Mountainside Inn is the most popular and affordable hotel option for visiting scientists. It is located at the West End of Town, just a short, flat walk to the workshop venue. The accommodations include basic studio-style rooms (some have kitchenettes) and one-bedroom suites. Dogs are allowed in select rooms for an additional nightly charge. The Mountainside Inn has a strict 2-week cancellation policy.
The New Sheridan Hotel: Located in the heart of Telluride’s business district on Colorado Avenue, the New Sheridan Hotel is Telluride’s premiere historic hotel. The rooms are well-appointed, and the hotel is home one of Telluride’s finest dining establishments, the New Sheridan Chop House. The property also has a historic bar, and Telluride’s only roof-top bar. The New Sheridan has a strict 30-day cancellation policy.
Manitou Lodge:
The Manitou Lodge Telluride is a quaint 11-room inn nestled along the San Miguel River in the town of Telluride. This makes for easy walking and access to downtown Telluride as well as hiking trails nearby. The Manitou Lodge has an innkeeper who will check you in on site and show you the property. A light continental breakfast is served every morning during season and can be enjoyed in our common kitchen or outside on the adjacent sunny deck overlooking the river. Several of the rooms directly face the river with a small balcony opening up towards town and the river.
The Hotel Telluride: Located very close to the workshop venue on the west end of Telluride, this hotel is very comfortable, quiet, and a favorite of Telluride Science participants. The hotel has a gym, spa, hot tub, and a restaurant. All rooms have a kitchenette and a balcony. Pets are allowed in select rooms for an additional nightly charge. Hotel Telluride has a strict 30-day cancellation policy.
The Camels Garden Hotel: This boutique hotel is located at the base of the gondola adjacent to the San Miguel River and the River Trail. The Camels Garden has well-appointed rooms with fireplaces and large bathrooms. Dogs are allowed in select rooms for an additional nightly charge. The Camel’s Garden has a strict 30-day cancellation policy.
Hotel Columbia: The Hotel Columbia is located at the base of the Gondola and is one of Telluride’s most luxurious accommodations with rooms ranging from studio style to three-bedroom penthouse suites. Most rooms have a balcony, gas fireplace, and kitchenette. The hotel is also home to The Cosmopolitan Restaurant, and a complimentary breakfast is included. The Hotel Columbia has a strict 30-day cancellation policy.
The Victorian Inn: This hotel is located one block off of Colorado Avenue in the business district of Telluride. The hotel offers a hot tub and a continental breakfast. The rooms are simple and some have small kitchenettes. The Victorian Inn has a strict 30-day cancellation policy and charges $50 to change any reservation.
MOUNTAIN VILLAGE HOTELS
Bear Creek Lodge: Bear Creek Lodge is one of our most popular and affordable options for condos. It is a great choice for groups wanting to split condos as each bedroom has its own bathroom. Bear Creek Lodge has a free shuttle that brings you to the Gondola. A 15-minute gondola ride and a 10-minute walk will bring you to the workshop venue.
Bear Creek Lodge offers a free shuttle to anywhere in Mountain Village as well as wireless internet, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, an outdoor heated pool, kids game room and a sauna. Parking at Bear Creek Lodge is on-site and available on a first come first served basis, the fee is $25/night. The comfortable and spacious Bear Creek Lodge accommodations are the perfect option for your family or group. Lock-off rooms are also available for our guests who just need more of a hotel room set-up with a bedroom and private bath.
Mountain Lodge: The Mountain Lodge is located within a short walk from the gondola. Mountain Lodge has a swimming pool, hot tub, fitness center and more.
Join us for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at The View restaurant located in the Mountain Lodge. Pair a delicious poolside lunch with any of the rotating selection of Colorado brews on tap, or warm up by the indoor fireplace with a craft cocktail. The View is where you pair tasty bites with a welcoming ambiance and awe-inspiring scenery.
Dogs are allowed in select rooms for an additional $50/night up to $150.
Montrose Hotels
The Hampton Inn: The Hampton Inn is located adjacent to the Montrose Airport (MTJ) and is one and a half hours from Telluride. This is an excellent choice for participants with flights arriving late at night or with early morning departures. The rooms are clean, simple, and comfortable. The Hampton Inn offers Telluride Science participants a discounted rate. All reservations and payments are made directly to the hotel.
Please call 970.252.3300 to make a reservation and ask for the Telluride Science (TSRC) rate. If you have an early flight, we recommend having dinner in Telluride and taking a late shuttle down to the hotel for a longer night’s sleep. If you are arriving late, we recommend staying at the Hampton Inn and coming to Telluride in the morning.
Condo Rentals
Many condos are available for a wide range of budgets. All condos have a 30-day cancellation policy. Discounted pricing is available through the Telluride Science registration process.
Note: Condos located on the West End of Telluride are a very short, flat walk to the workshop venue.
With a gondola ride required, it may take 30 minutes to reach the workshop venue from some Mountain Village condos.
